FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India) is a statutory body under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare. It ensures that food products in India are safe for consumption and meet defined quality standards.

FoSCoS (Food Safety Compliance System) is the modernized online portal launched by FSSAI to replace the old FLRS system. It facilitates FSSAI license registration, renewal, and compliance reporting.

FLRS (Food Licensing and Registration System) was the previous portal for applying for FSSAI licenses. It has been replaced by FoSCoS.

All food business operators (FBOs) must register or obtain a license. This includes:

• Manufacturers and processors

• Wholesalers, retailers, resellers

• Restaurants, hotels, food stalls

• Online/e-commerce food sellers

• Transporters and warehousing agents

• Home-based kitchens and bakers

FSSAI licenses are categorized based on annual turnover:

• Basic Registration: Turnover less than ₹12 lakhs

• State License: Turnover between ₹12 lakhs and ₹20 crores

• Central License: Turnover above ₹20 crores or for import/export, large manufacturers, or inter-state operations

• • Ensures legal compliance and avoids penalties

  • Builds consumer trust and brand credibility

  • Makes businesses eligible for government funding and loans

  • Allows use of the FSSAI logo for branding

  • Simplifies expansion and licensing for new branches

  • Promotes improved food safety and hygiene practices

• Passport-size photo

• Aadhaar card or PAN card

• Proof of business address (electricity bill, rent agreement, etc.)

• NOC from owner (if applicable)

• Business constitution certificate (e.g., partnership deed, certificate of incorporation)

The license is valid for 1 to 5 years. It must be renewed at least 30 days before expiry to avoid penalties.
